I stumbled across this article
today. I usually don’t really like TIME
magazine but this article points out some very important points about US health
care. For instance, why does
technological advance drive health care costs up instead of down? Why can a trip to the ER cost as much as a
car? How is it that a non-profit
organization is making a higher profit margin off revenue than a major
corporation that’s sole purpose is to make money? Did you know the health care industry in
America outspends the government defense program? Wow! When
you see the numbers you will be shocked, especially if this is a topic you have
been paying particular attention to. I
mean, the hospital in the article charged $1.50 for a single tab of
Tylenol. Seriously? You can buy 150 tabs of Tylenol for about
$2. As the author points out, this
system is unsustainable and is a huge burden on the country.
