A TIME Article on Medical Bills: Please Read

I stumbled across this article today.  I usually don’t really like TIME magazine but this article points out some very important points about US health care.  For instance, why does technological advance drive health care costs up instead of down?  Why can a trip to the ER cost as much as a car?  How is it that a non-profit organization is making a higher profit margin off revenue than a major corporation that’s sole purpose is to make money?  Did you know the health care industry in America outspends the government defense program?  Wow!  When you see the numbers you will be shocked, especially if this is a topic you have been paying particular attention to.  I mean, the hospital in the article charged $1.50 for a single tab of Tylenol.  Seriously?  You can buy 150 tabs of Tylenol for about $2.  As the author points out, this system is unsustainable and is a huge burden on the country.

The Seven Habits of Super Healthy People

I really enjoyed reading this article.  I will say I don't think I will ever be a fan of cold showers but I guess once in a while would not hurt (in the summer mind you).  Follow the link below to read it and discover why some people are REALLY healthy.  Most of it will not be a surprise but some of the factors they list are not what I would normally suspect.

An Interesting Article about Magnesium

http://www.naturalnews.com/039154_health_benefits_magnesium_dietary_sources.html

This article does a great job explaining why most people are at least somewhat deficient in the mineral magnesium.  It also explains the health benefits and sources of this important nutrient.

Home-made Taco Seasoning

I really love tacos but frankly I don’t like seeing a list of ingredients that can include anti-caking agents, modified corn starch (whatever that means, right?), coloring agents, and numerous other chemicals masquerading as ingredients in my food.  Sooo I made up my own recipe for taco seasonings.  It has only real spices and seasonings and is a good substitute for conventional taco seasoning packets found at the grocery store.

Home-made Taco Seasoning (for 1lb of ground meat)

2 teaspoons pink Himalayan sea salt

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon cumin powder

½ teaspoon paprika powder

½ teaspoon oregano

Dash of fresh ground black pepper

¼ cup apple cider vinegar

1 ½ cups of water

Brown the meat in large pan.  While meat is cooking combine all ingredients in a small bowl and stir to blend ingredients.  Add mixture to meat in the pan and bring to a boil stirring constantly.  Reduce heat and cover pan. Simmer until most of the liquid is absorbed (usually about 5 minutes).
